PTSC aims for investment on offshore wind power projects

Petrovietnam Technical Services Corporation (PTSC) has registered offshore wind power into the business license after getting approval from its major holding shareholder, Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam), and through the extraordinary general meeting which was held on December 29, 2021.
This is a remarkable milestone for PTSC’s strategic business plan and also in line with Petrovietnam’s orientation toward the green energy transition trend in the world and Vietnam is developing policies to encourage usage of clean and sustainable energy sources with an aim to reduce CO2 emission which causes the greenhouse effect. To achieve Net-Zero emission of CO2 by 2050 as committed with international organizations, Vietnam Government will prioritize a higher proportion of renewable energies in the national power development plan to gradually reduce the nation’s dependence on fossil-fuel-based energy. Hence, offshore wind power has a greater possibility for development.

With a coastline of more than 3,000 km, Vietnam is evaluated as a country which has the best  wind power resource in the region. According to a study done by BVG Associates (funded by Word Bank), several areas in Vietnam has the wind speed up to 7 m/s which is equivalent to the average wind speed in the Netherlands, the World No. 1 country in wind power sector. PTSC, with its capabilities and experience as a leading contractor in oil and gas industry, especially in offshore, has great advantages to be a pioneer for development of offshore wind power projects in Vietnam.

PTSC has actively participated in providing services for most of the nearshore wind power projects in the Southwest region such as the provisions of transportation, installation of wind towers & turbines and underground cable laying works. In addition, PTSC also has a long-term contract for provision of support vessels for the transportation of personnel and operation & maintenance equipment of wind power projects in Binh Dai - Ben Tre and Tra Vinh provinces. PTSC is also performing the contract to supply, install and operate the FLIDAR to  collect detailed wind resource, meteorological, and oceanographic data for Enterprize Energy at Thang Long offshore wind power project in Binh Thuan province. For oversea market, PTSC has won the international tender to construct 02 offshore substations (OSS) for Hai Long 2 and 3 offshore wind projects in Taiwan (China).

With the registration of offshore wind power to its business license, PTSC is the only member of Petrovietnam which has full capacity and legal basis to invest, develop and operate offshore wind power projects in Vietnam.
